Another tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, July 7, after 11 p.m., at the 22nd kilometre of the Wrocław Motorway Bypass, on the carriageway toward Warsaw. “According to the findings of the officers working at the scene, the driver of a BMW, travelling in the left lane, collided with a road services maintenance vehicle whose workers were cleaning the road surface. Unfortunately, the force of the impact was so great that the driver of the passenger car died at the scene,” reports Staff Sergeant Krzysztof Marcjan from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Wrocław. “The driver of the maintenance vehicle was also injured and was taken to one of Wrocław’s hospitals.”
The spokesperson adds:
Under the supervision of a prosecutor, police officers worked at the scene for almost the entire night to establish all the details of the accident. Forensic technicians and officers from the investigative group secured evidence that will help reconstruct how the incident occurred.
The officers say: “Unfortunately, as of yesterday alone, more than 80 people had already died on Polish roads since the beginning of the summer holidays. These were people who set out on their journeys hoping to reach their destinations without any problems. They never got there…”
And they appeal:
Once again, we appeal for prudence and caution when setting out on a journey. We remind you to prepare for the trip before you leave. It is worth considering both the conditions that may be encountered on the road and your own well-being.
However, the most important thing is to obey the applicable traffic regulations. This means not only speed limits, but also, among other things, keeping an appropriate distance from the vehicle ahead. When getting behind the wheel, we should also pay attention to unusual situations and adjust our driving style to the prevailing conditions. All this is so that we can reach our destination safely and in good health. We also ask you to think about other road users. Aggression and negative emotions on the road will not help during a journey. Common sense and empathy are what should guide us when setting off.
