– A 33-year-old resident of Strzelin County unlawfully took an Iveco vehicle used by employees of a company collecting waste in Wrocław. On Sucha Street, right next to the PKP railway station, he took advantage of the moment when they got out to empty the rubbish bins at the bus stop, took the driver’s seat and drove away – reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
The employees notified the police, who shortly afterwards spotted the vehicle at one of Wrocław’s intersections. The driver, acting with reckless abandon, was stopped. As it turned out, the 33-year-old had committed as many as three offences in his escapade, including:
- Taking a vehicle for the purpose of its temporary use.
- Breaching an active driving ban.
What is more, the “garbage-truck driver” was completely drunk, with nearly 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. And… he had already been convicted of drunk driving.
Spokesperson:
During his ride in the stolen Iveco, he damaged several properly parked cars and road infrastructure.
She adds:
The man was arrested and placed in a detention facility. The court will decide the penalty to be imposed on the 33-year-old.
