– Border Guard officers from Legnica, together with Legnica police officers, detained a 41-year-old resident of Lubin suspected of excise-duty fencing – says Maj. SG Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit. – During the inspection of the vehicle and the premises occupied by the man, more than 108,000 cigarettes and nearly 11 kilograms of cut tobacco were seized.

The spokesperson adds: – These are another successful joint operation by Legnica Border Guard and police officers targeting the illegal trade in excise goods.

It was estimated that if the contraband had entered circulation, the State Treasury would have lost more than PLN 143,000.

The 41-year-old detainee faces up to three years in prison, forfeiture of the seized property and a heavy fine.
