We reported on the story of Oskar Ćwilichowski in April last year. From birth, the young resident of our county often stayed in hospital. When he was 2.5 years old, doctors diagnosed him with myelomonocytic leukemia. A bone marrow transplant was necessary. Oskar’s older sister, Gabriela, became the donor.
After a year and a half of treatment, the disease returned. The boy underwent a second transplant. “The disease stopped, but complications occurred,” says Julita Ćwilichowska, Oskar’s mother.
In 2009, the boy started preparatory class (he is a student at Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec). He feels well, but still requires expensive treatment, which his family simply cannot afford.
On Saturday, January 23 this year, a carnival ball was held at Primary School No. 4, raising money for Oskar. The Parents’ Council organized a raffle. A group of young people from Bolesławiec also joined the effort. “We collected two large bags of toys. On Thursday, we donated the prizes for the raffle,” says Przemysław Tyndyra. “We are always happy to take part in this type of campaign. And we will certainly participate in future ones,” he adds.
“The carnival ball is our tradition. We have organized it for more than 20 years. It is a great way to bring the school’s students together,” emphasizes Ewa Słocińska, principal of Primary School No. 4. “And this year we are also helping our student Oskar. We try to make our pupils aware of other people’s problems.”
