Last September, we wrote that Agnieszka Nowak and Jordan Czopko, formerly associated with the Canon group, were planning to create a completely new dance group in Bolesławiec – Street Soul Dance Crew. “There are lots of people in our county who are fascinated by dance,” Jordan told us at the time. “We, in turn, have already reached a certain level of proficiency and have taken part in many competitions. We have also participated in workshops led by finalists of the You Can Dance program. Now we want to infect others with our passion.”
For several months, the SSDC members have been practicing at the Cezar club. Around 40 people attend the classes. “We are very happy,” says Agnieszka. “We understand one another very well. There are no major conflicts between us.”
“I previously trained in various types of dance, including ballroom dancing,” says Monika Czich, a student at I LO. “I came to the classes because I wanted to try something new. And I don’t regret it. The atmosphere here is really great. Besides, I really like dancing. Through dance, you can express everything that is in your heart,” she adds.
As Agnieszka says, SSDC training sessions can be so intense that the windows fog up at Cezar. The participants do not hold back. “We can see that dance is what really interests them,” the dancer emphasizes. “That is why we do not do anything half-heartedly. We leave training sweaty, but also satisfied.”
The class participants have grown close and wear Street Soul Dance Crew T-shirts. The group has its own YouTube channel, where you can find, among other things, SSDC choreography routines. Members of the well-known Wrocław group Street Dance Academy posted a comment beneath one of the videos. They wrote that they were happy Bolesławiec “gets it.”
Jordan has never hidden the fact that he has certain hopes for SSDC. “We try to perform with this group as often as possible,” he says. The SSDC members danced at the Evening of Christmas Traditions in Łaziska and appeared at a dance competition in Bogatynia.
Dance winter break
Agnieszka and Jordan are organizing workshops for hip-hop dance enthusiasts. The classes will take place from February 1 to 4 at Cezar. The cost is PLN 30 (for 6 hours) and PLN 50 (for 12 hours). Registration is available by email: warsztatyssdc@gmail.com. The number of places is limited.
Meanwhile, in the second week of the winter break, Paweł „Gajos” Gaj from Wrocław’s Street Dance Academy will come to Bolesławiec. “He learned to dance in Los Angeles and London,” Jordan points out. “He is very young, but already recognizable,” Agnieszka adds.
The dancer from Wrocław will lead a two-hour workshop combined with an audition for SSDC’s representative team. “After the class, Paweł, Agnieszka and I will choose the 10 best participants,” says Jordan. Special classes will be organized for them.
