The incident took place on Thursday, 17 June, in Kruszyn near Bolesławiec. Soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment received a report that a woman had found a Soviet-made anti-personnel hand grenade from the Second World War in her home garden.

The situation was particularly dangerous because while working in the garden, the woman cut off the grenade’s... fuse with a hoe. (The projectile’s danger zone is 20 m).

Fortunately, no one was injured. The uniformed officers eliminated the threat.

As we read on the Facebook profile of Patrolu Saperskiego Bolesławiec of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment:

It should be remembered that explosives used in military technology are in practice completely resistant to weather conditions and, regardless of their production date, retain their explosive properties.

What should you do if you find unexploded ordnance or a misfired shell?

  1. Do not touch such objects.
  2. Secure the area against access by unauthorized people (e.g. children) and mark the place where the object was found.
  3. Report it immediately by calling the emergency number 112.
