The incident took place on May 24. “Before noon, the duty officer received a report of a citizen’s arrest of an intoxicated driver near one of the stores in Lwówek Śląski. A police patrol immediately went to the scene,” reports Sgt. Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski.
The person reporting the incident, who was driving behind a Volkswagen, noticed that the latter’s driver was driving as if he were under the influence of alcohol. He decided to stop him and call the police.
The intervening driver’s suspicions proved justified. The Volkswagen driver, a 28-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County, was drunk; a breath test showed 1.2 per mille of alcohol.
But that was not all. The young man admitted that he was under quarantine because the children travelling with him in the car had tested positive for COVID-19. He explained to the officers that he had to take care of an urgent matter and had no one to leave his children with.
Spokeswoman:
The police informed the sanitary authorities about the situation and will file a motion with the court to punish him for the offence of violating quarantine/isolation rules.
And she adds:
For driving a car under the influence of alcohol, the man faces up to two years in prison.
