Kamil Wójtowicz, a resident of Bolesławiec County, was two years old when his mother, Agnieszka, a resident of Złotoryja, disappeared. Unfortunately, little is known about the circumstances of the disappearance, which occurred in 1998.

The son, who was raised by his grandparents, finally decided to find out what had happened to his mother. At Mr. Kamil’s request, the case was initially described by crime.com.pl in early 2021. A few days later, the portal’s editor received information that it might concern a woman whose body was found in May 1999 near Międzybrodzie Bialskie, in a septic tank, with a plastic bag over her head. She had died of suffocation. As reported by crime.com.pl, she had been raped and scalped.

In 1999, the Żywiec prosecutor’s office discontinued the case, and the woman was buried as N.N.

In the spring of that year, the case finally began to move forward. As istotne.pl reported, Kamil Wójtowicz said that DNA tests conducted at the Medical University of Silesia confirmed that the buried woman was the mother of our countryman.

Will the killer face justice?

Janusz Szostak of crime.com.pl recalls in his article that after the publication of the piece about the search for Ms. Agnieszka, a woman contacted him who had been attacked by a man 23 years ago, and whose modus operandi was reportedly similar. The portal quotes the victim:

It was 23 years ago; I was 19 at the time. […] That day I was travelling by bus from Bielsko-Biała to Żarnowka Mała. He was on the bus, watching me; I could feel his eyes on me. And when I got off, he did too. But he went in a different direction. When I crossed the dam and was walking towards the “Merilany” resort, he jumped out of the forest and punched me in the face. He beat me, then hit me on the head with a large stone. I screamed terribly, and he tried to undo my trousers and rape me. When I had already begun to lose consciousness, a car suddenly drove up and a couple saved my life. He ran into the forest.

The woman who contacted editor J. Szostak recalls that the aforementioned attacker was arrested and spent a short time in prison. We asked the Żywiec police spokesperson about the case. She referred us to the prosecutor’s office. Agnieszka Michulec, press spokesperson for the Bielsko-Biała District Prosecutor’s Office:

I kindly inform you that the proceedings in which you are interested are being conducted by the Żywiec District Prosecutor’s Office under reference number PR 2 Ds 737.2021, having been reopened on 11 May 2021. The investigation concerns the murder, at an unspecified time, of an unidentified woman whose naked body, with a tightly pulled plastic bag around her head, was found on 15 May 1999 in Międzybrodzie-Bialskie, in the septic tank of a newly built holiday building.

And she adds:

At this stage of the proceedings, in the interests of the investigation, we are not providing information about the findings made, including the identification of the body, as further procedural activities are under way in the case. It will be possible to comment on this matter only in July.

The son himself, however, has no intention of giving up. He appeals:

DNA tests confirmed that she was my mother. Maybe there are people who know something, who will say something?
