On Saturday, January 9, a cross-country run “A Stroll with the Orchestra” was held in Iwiny, organized by the WOŚP committee in Warta Bolesławiecka. Twenty-nine people took part in the competition (only two did not finish the run).

The competition took place in truly extreme conditions: several degrees below zero, strong wind and a layer of snow more than 20 centimetres deep. Many runners, including a team from Jelenia Góra, were unable to reach Iwiny because of the bad weather. This makes the applause due to those who took part in the competition all the greater.

The youngest participants in the competition were Weronika Kanikowska from Raciborowice and Staś Pachnik from Iwiny. Here are the names of the winners in the individual categories:

  • Wojciech Pachnik from Lubków – in the men’s open category
  • Małgorzata Szeliga from Raciborowice – in the women’s open category
  • Jacek Domowicz from Bolesławiec – in the veterans’ category
  • Andrzej Wojnowicz from Lubków and Angelika Haniszewska from Raciborowice – in the lower-secondary-school category
  • Dariusz Kulik from Iwiny and Weronika Kanikowska – in the primary-school category.

The atmosphere at the competition was exceptionally warm, also because Barbara and Anna Piętka and Ewa Kulik served tea and delicious pea soup.

The tournament could not have taken place without the help of the Community Cultural Centre and Mirosław Kopczyński. The run organizers collected more than PLN 320.
