Moreover, the jury (comprising Marta Satoła, a Sudeten mountain guide, Andrzej Olejniczak, a representative of the Museum of Ceramics, and Czesław Szmelter, chair of the competition committee and head of the Bolesławiec branch of the Polish Youth Hostel Association) awarded a prize for perseverance. It went to Adrian Drąg from the Lower Secondary School in Nowogrodziec, author of the text “Along the Milestones of the Polish-Saxon Postal Route. The Historic Dresden–Warsaw Route.”
“My entry was not easy to write; there are not many studies about Hohelstein Palace,” says Patrycja Dubina. “I received help from an acquaintance in Germany, who visited local libraries for me. I love this castle and its romantic surroundings, which are unfortunately becoming increasingly dilapidated. I would like these ruins to be restored and Hohelstein Palace to once again delight visitors with its original beauty.
Dariusz Kwaśniewski of the Bolesławiec District Board admits that he is pleased with this edition of the competition, but would prefer to see more upper secondary school students take part. “Unfortunately, I have to accept that they already have so much schoolwork that they do not find additional time to prepare for this competition,” he says. “Writing such an entry is not easy. The jury chair sets high requirements for the entries, but that is a good thing. It forces the participants to research their sources even more carefully.
The competition was organized by the Bolesławiec District Office and the Bolesławiec branch of the Polish Youth Hostel Association, with the support of the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec.
