The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 11. Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters:
After 2 p.m., a man approached a senior citizen in front of a block of flats in one of Bolesławiec’s housing estates. He told her that he had previously spoken with her daughter about replacing the windows.
The 83-year-old woman let the man into her apartment. He asked the senior citizen to hold the balcony door. Meanwhile, the criminal was supposedly going to check the condition of the windows in other rooms.
After some time, the senior citizen became concerned because the “specialist” had not returned for a long while. As it turned out, the man was no longer in the apartment. However, not only he had disappeared—the cash had too: PLN 3,000.
Police officers:
Scammers try various methods and pretexts. Residents hear about failures in the water supply network and the need to check whether pipes are watertight, overpayments made by the apartment owner and the possibility of immediately recovering the money. The fraudsters claim to be employees of various institutions and companies.
POLICE WARNING – DO NOT LET STRANGERS INTO YOUR HOME! DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO STRANGERS!
