The Municipal Heritage Protection Programme for the City of Bolesławiec identified the primary objective to be achieved: active management of tangible cultural heritage and efforts to materially improve the condition of historic monuments, including their reconstruction, adaptation and revitalisation, in order to harness the potential associated with the cultural heritage in the city’s possession.
It is worth noting that, in accordance with a resolution of the Bolesławiec City Council, by 30 January each year the Mayor submits to the Bolesławiec City Council proposals for grants for conservation, restoration or construction work on historic monuments entered in the register of historic monuments. In 2019–2020, work was carried out under 11 grants awarded, for a total amount of PLN 1,339,100.
Grants implemented in 2019: a) PLN 270,000 – renovation of the façade of the tenement house at 1 Zacisze Street, adjacent to the Market Square, b) PLN 20,000 – renovation of the roof covering of the residential building at 7 Zwycięstwa Street, c) PLN 20,000 – renovation of the roof covering of the residential building at 12 Wojska Polskiego Street, d) PLN 140,000 – renovation of the façade of the tenement house at 4 Teatralna Street, adjacent to the Market Square, e) PLN 140,000 – conservation and restoration of the Stations of the Cross paintings in the parish church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 1b Zamkowy Square, stage II, f) PLN 209,100 – comprehensive conservation work on the Gothic Church of Our Lady of the Rosary at 1a Ceramiczna Street – stage I – vertical insulation of the church walls and renovation of damp interior plaster.
Grants implemented in 2020: a) PLN 100,000 – renovation and cleaning of the façade of the service and commercial building at 6c Mickiewicza Street, b) PLN 100,000 – renovation of the façade of the tenement house at 17A Polna Street, c) PLN 90,000 – renovation of the façade of the tenement house at 6 Warszawska Street, d) PLN 150,000 – stratigraphic research for historic wall paintings in the Bolesławiec Marian Basilica, e) PLN 100,000 – conservation and restoration of the sculptural group “Jesus, Friend of Children” located in Bolesławiec at Zamkowy Square + PLN 50,000.00 – increase in the grant in accordance with a City Council resolution.
Efforts are also being made to secure funding for work on Bolesławiec’s historic monuments from the state budget and support programmes, including EU programmes: – funding of PLN 15,108,099.97 was obtained for the renovation of the Pückler Palace at 28/29 Zgorzelecka Street, intended as the new headquarters of the Museum of Ceramics, from the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism under the Culture programme (Measure 1 – Improving cultural heritage management).
The distinction awarded to the Bolesławiec Urban Municipality for exemplary preparation and implementation of its municipal heritage protection programme in the “Local Government for Heritage” competition is also noteworthy. The aim of the competition was to promote and disseminate the best practices in preparing and implementing municipal heritage protection programmes. The National Heritage Board of Poland recognised Bolesławiec in the urban municipalities category for its care of historic monuments, including recognising the potential of the municipality’s cultural heritage and consistently implementing a historic monument protection programme understood as a strategy for managing this heritage, as well as for its comprehensive approach to the city’s cultural heritage, consistency and the local government’s strong commitment to implementing the programme’s provisions.
