At the end of March, a comment posted beneath a press release on one of the websites attracted the attention of investigators from the Wałbrzych police headquarters. It turned out that it contained the personal details of one of the officers. In the post, an unknown person threatened the police officer with death. As a result, the officer reported the possibility that the internet user had committed an offense, as there was concern that the threats might be carried out.
In the course of operational and procedural activities, officers from the criminal investigation division of the Wałbrzych police headquarters identified and then detained the perpetrator. He turned out to be a 36-year-old resident of Wałbrzych. The suspect has already been charged with making criminal threats online against an officer. He admitted committing the offense. He faces up to 2 years in prison.
In connection with this incident, it is worth emphasizing once again that freedom of speech has its limits. Hate and hate speech are not acceptable. Let us remember that no one is anonymous in cyberspace, every action leaves a trace, and the impunity of people who break the law is only apparent. Therefore, we appeal to internet users to follow generally accepted netiquette and strictly comply with the law.
