The police officer checking the ID of Kinga, who welcomed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki with a bowl of rice, is a district officer. And not just any district officer: in Bolesławiec County, he was nominated for the competition for the most popular district officer in the first Lower Silesian plebiscite of its kind, organized in 2018.
– Without any legal or factual basis whatsoever, I was threatened with being deprived of my freedom for 24 hours because I refused to show my ID – writes Kinga in her complaint about the officers who detained a handful of Women's Strike participants after Prime Minister Morawiecki's visit. – The police officer who checked my ID is also my district officer, and since he was able to check my identity from memory, including my home address, he knows my situation perfectly well: I am raising two children alone. And he knows that my children are my entire world. This was an obvious abuse of power and emotional blackmail. In addition, I was informed that a request would be submitted to the court because I was not wearing a mask. I was not asked to show a medical certificate exempting me from this requirement. When I heard the district officer say that if I did not show my ID, he had the right to detain me for 24 hours, I simply felt sad – Kinga adds.
The people who were surrounded by police and had their identities checked on April 19 will file an official complaint with the prosecutor's office about the officers' conduct.
Let us recall that on Monday, April 19, Mateusz Morawiecki arrived at the county hospital. The Bolesławiec Women's Strike welcomed him with a stamped bowl full of rice. The prime minister did not come out to meet the citizens. After a brief appearance for TVP inside the hospital, which was closed at the time, Mateusz Morawiecki left in a government limousine. Several people from the protest then went to Bielska Street, to the vaccination site, hoping that the prime minister might also appear there. The prime minister did not come, but the police did. Twenty-five police officers surrounded seven protest participants and checked their identities.
Do rank-and-file police officers realize how much harm the government of United Right, fighting citizens with the hands of police officers, is doing to them and to their professional image?
During the identity checks, Dariusz Sas addressed the police officers, reminding them that they had known how to protest when their own interests were at stake. – You all knew how to protest on your own behalf; you all knew how to take sick leave – said Darius Sas. – And this government, which talks about rising from its knees, got down on its knees and gave in to you. Think about that uniform. I know that you are carrying out orders, but if half of you take sick leave… Think about it – Darius Sas appealed to the police officers.
And let us appeal to the police officers as well. Think about people's trust and about the work you do for society.
