The 2021 National Population and Housing Census is scheduled to continue until September 30 this year and provide information about the size and functioning of society. Participation is mandatory. Police:

The primary form of the census is online self-enumeration, involving completion of a form available on the website of Statistics Poland. The supplementary method is telephone enumeration via the helpline available at 22 279 99 99.

The officers appeal:

While fulfilling our civic duty, we should nevertheless remember to exercise caution so that our data does not fall into the wrong hands. Fraudsters may exploit any opportunity to obtain information that interests them, such as personal data or details necessary to use online banking.

A resident of Włocławek demonstrated vigilance in this matter when an alleged female census enumerator contacted him recently. The officers said: “During a conversation via the intercom, the woman stated that she was an employee of the census office and had come regarding completion of the form. The Włocławek resident did not provide the woman with his details and arranged to meet her at another time. At the same time, he called the statistical office helpline to report the incident.

The result? Everything indicates that the woman claiming to be a census enumerator was not actually one, as information provided by Statistics Poland shows that, due to the epidemic, enumerators’ field visits have been suspended until further notice. Police officers are currently conducting proceedings to establish the identity of the person who contacted the Włocławek resident regarding the census.

The police add:

We appeal for caution and encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the rules and questions used during the census. This will help us know what questions to expect and which ones we should not answer. For example, if we are asked about bank account numbers, login details or valuables we own, we should immediately become suspicious of the caller’s honesty, because there are no such questions on the census form.
