The incident occurred on Wednesday, at around 9:30 p.m., in one of the supermarkets in Lwówek Śląski. “The young man decided to commit a theft there. He took 4 bottles of whisky and tried to leave. One of the employees took the goods away from the man,” reports Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek police.

She adds:

However, he relentlessly grabbed more bottles and, while fleeing, slipped on the wet surface, falling and smashing a total of 8 bottles of whisky worth more than PLN 500.

The supermarket employees and customers subdued the 20-year-old alcohol enthusiast and held him until the officers arrived. The would-be thief was taken into police custody.

As a reminder, theft is punishable by between three months and even five years in prison. Brazen theft carries a sentence of between six months and eight years.
