Kutuzowa “Goths – from the Baltic Sea to Rome” – an exhibition prepared by Muzeum Łużyckie in Zgorzelec in cooperation with Muzeum Archeologiczno-Historyczne in Elbląg, Muzeum Archeologiczne we Wrocławiu, Muzeum Archeologiczne Środkowego Nadodrza and Zakład Narodowy im. Ossolińskich we Wrocławiu. The exhibition presents the history of the Goths in the first centuries of our era, when they settled the southern shores of the Baltic Sea and prospered through the amber trade. Over time, some of them moved southeast. The great migration, lasting several generations, took them to the Black Sea and the middle Danube. The main focus of the exhibition is the complex relationship between the Goths and the power of the ancient world – the Roman Empire – as well as their highly distinctive material culture, whose remains are still discovered by archaeologists, consisting mainly of sets of women’s jewellery made of bronze, silver and gold.
