Here are the winners in the science category:

  • Przemysław Sulich is a graduate of the 1st General Secondary School in Bolesławiec and is currently a first-year Neurobiology student at Jagiellonian University. In 2020, he received the Bolesławiec County Governor’s Award for completing the 1st General Secondary School with an average grade of 5.53 and for achieving the highest matura examination result in Bolesławiec County. In 2020, he was a finalist in the central stage of the 39th Biology Olympiad. He also took sixth place in the National Tax Knowledge Competition. He was involved in many initiatives, particularly the organization of the Lower Silesian Science Festival, as part of which he represented Bolesławiec at a special city-promotion stand in the Knowledge Park in Wrocław. He also organized humanities workshops for lower-secondary school students and was active in the school’s Discussion Book Club.
  • Wojciech Raszczuk is a winner of numerous mathematics competitions. Over the past several years, he achieved high results in regional and international competitions. In 2020, he became a winner of the 14th edition of the Tower of Babel competition and the KOALA Combinatorial, Algorithmic and Logical Competition. His work culminated in winning the Lower Silesian Chemistry Competition zDolny Ślązak and the Lower Silesian Physics Competition zDolny Ślązak. Since 2016, he has achieved very good results every year in the International Mathematical Kangaroo Competition. In addition, in 2019 he won the Mathematical Linguistics Competition “Tower of Babel” and the 16th Polish Championships in Mathematical and Logical Games.
  • Natalia Gorlach was a finalist in the 2020 Lower Silesian Championships in Education for Ecological Safety, “I Learn to Live Safely.” Thanks to her involvement, Primary School No. 4 acquired equipment for teaching first aid. Since 2015, she had achieved success in first-aid knowledge competitions, taking high places. In 2020, she also achieved a sporting success, taking first place in the County Championships for Primary School Grades VII–VIII in Girls’ Volleyball. She is also proud of her artistic achievements, taking second place in the 2019 Regional Finals of the Oratory Competition “You Too Can Become Demosthenes! A Lower Silesian Student Master of the Polish Language” and receiving an honorable mention in the National Art Competition “Doll.” As a councilor of the Bolesławiec Youth City Council, she co-initiated a clean-up-the-world campaign.
  • Adam Baniecki is head of the Bolesławiec branch of the State Archive in Wrocław, a researcher of the region’s history, and an organizer and participant in academic conferences devoted to the postwar history of Lower Silesia, particularly the history of the city and Bolesławiec County. Since 2020, together with the 1st General Secondary School, Primary School No. 4 and the Museum of Ceramics, he has been working on another edition of the “Save from Oblivion” project, concerning settlers from Central Poland. Adam Baniecki’s doctoral dissertation, “Bolesławiec County in 1945–1950,” received an award in the 11th edition of the Bolesławiec Mayor’s Competition for the best master’s or doctoral thesis on the history and present of the city of Bolesławiec and was published by the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. A promotional meeting with the publication’s author took place in 2020.
  • The Henryk Sucharski General and Vocational Schools Complex in Bolesławiec – the school undertakes a range of initiatives promoting the city of Bolesławiec domestically and abroad. For the twentieth time, the school’s students, graduates and teachers co-organized the Integration Christmas Wafer Meeting for People with Disabilities. They actively participated in fundraising as part of the “World Hunger Day” campaign. Thanks to the efforts of the school authorities, the institution provides training in the ceramic decorator profession as part of a pedagogical experiment. In 2020, the school’s students participated in international eTwinning projects, the Erasmus+ “Creative School Team” project, the Polish-Ukrainian “History and People Connect Us” project, the “Common Path toward Entrepreneurship in Schools” project, the Polish-German “Expansion of Bolesławiec and Bautzen’s Cross-Border Educational Offer” project, and many competitions, achieving very high positions at the local, regional and national levels. The school library took second place among 101 libraries from across Poland in a competition organized as part of the “About People with Disabilities” campaign.
