A dangerous-looking road incident occurred in the town of Wojcieszów (Złotoryja County). “As officers determined, the 46-year-old woman driving an Opel passenger car failed to exercise due caution at an unguarded but signposted railway crossing, as a result of which she drove directly into the path of an approaching freight train,” reports Staff Sergeant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja. “There was also one other person in the car; fortunately, no one was injured.”
Both the passenger-car driver and the locomotive engineer were sober. The 46-year-old was fined.
Spokeswoman:
It is worth remembering that the Road Traffic Act clearly sets out the proper conduct for a driver approaching a railway crossing. Article 28, Section 1 of the Road Traffic Code states: “When approaching a railway crossing and driving across it, the driver of a vehicle is required to exercise particular caution. Before entering the tracks, the driver is required to make sure that no rail vehicle is approaching and to take appropriate precautionary measures, especially if visibility is reduced due to fog or other reasons.”
And she adds:
Of course, the law is not everything; common sense and responsible thinking are also useful behind the wheel. A moment of inattention can lead to tragedy on the road.
