Bolesławiec criminal investigators established through operational activities that tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings might be stored in one of the apartments in Bolesławiec municipality. – After entering the building, the 83-year-old confirmed the officers’ suspicions, pointing to the room he occupied as the place where the illegal goods were stored – reports Asp. Sgt. Monika Kaleta from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds:
When officers searched the living quarters, they secured goods without Polish excise-duty markings: 23.5 kg of cut tobacco, packaged in half-kilogram plastic bags, as well as 480 packs of cigarettes and more than 3,600 individual cigarettes.
The total value of the seized illegal tobacco products resulted in excise-duty losses of nearly PLN 30,000 and VAT losses of more than PLN 8,000. Officers are currently investigating all the circumstances of the case, including where the illegal goods came from.
The 83-year-old now faces up to three years in prison.
