Four canine teams of handlers and KAS dogs from the tax administration chambers in Opole, Rzeszów, Gdynia and Warszawa will be trained to detect COVID-19 in people at an early stage.

The pilot training will take place at the Training Centre in Kamion. The dogs will be taught to recognise the smell of COVID-19 collected from people infected with the virus.

The training programme was based on two independent medical training protocols for dogs to detect COVID-19. The protocols were developed by a Polish research group led by Professor Michał Dzięcioł from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences and a French research and scientific group led by Professor Dominique Grandjean from the École Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort (France).

This innovative project will expand the scope of KAS service dogs’ use and thus contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
