Professional hair clippers, like hairdressing scissors, are no longer exclusively the domain of barbers and hairdressers. Increasingly, we also buy them individually and use them at home.

It is important whether you intend to buy the clippers for home use or for a barbershop. In the first case, the device will be used much less intensively; in the second, it can be expected to operate almost continuously.

What distinguishes professional hair clippers?

When looking for hair clippers, you may notice that individual models differ quite significantly. So what should you base your decision on?

It is worth considering what the device will actually be used for. In professional use, long operating time and short charging time are highly important. At home, this issue will not necessarily be a priority. In the case of corded clippers, a sufficiently long cable will provide comfort in every situation, making it easy to maintain a comfortable body position while preventing the cord from catching on the shelf beneath the mirror or on cosmetics.

Professional hair clippers offer more options than standard models. Not all functions are useful at home. It is worth investing in several different cutting lengths and additionally getting hairdressing scissors for precise touch-ups.

Specifications: what should you consider?

When deciding to buy hair clippers, it is worth considering several specifications. The most important are:

Power supply type — cordless, corded or cordless/corded

Cordless clippers allow you to cut hair without a tangled cable. Once discharged, simply place them on a station connected to a power source. Different models offer different operating times. Corded clippers provide more stable operation, but the cable can sometimes be inconvenient. The advantages of both solutions are combined by the third option — a combination of the first two. Such clippers can operate with a cable but also allow you to move around freely.

Blade dimensions and cutting-length adjustment

Today, every clipper allows you to set several hair lengths. More expensive, more professional models simply offer more options. Note that the adjustment method varies. Most often, the device comes with a special adjustable attachment, but sometimes changing the cutting length requires replacing the comb. Blade width is also important. The most convenient blades are 30–45 mm wide.

Construction material

The material from which the clippers are made is an indicator of quality. The best bodies are made of ceramic or titanium materials. Aluminium ones are somewhat less durable, but they work well for home use. However, the blade material should be the priority: stainless-steel blades are recommended. An additional advantage is a carbon or titanium coating.

Power

A device with low power may not cope with thick hair. This is an important specification for hairdressers and for people whose hair has these characteristics.

What else is worth remembering?

When choosing clippers, pay attention to additional features. Water resistance allows for quick cleaning. A special brush is often included to make it easier to remove hair from the blade. Some people prefer models with a trimmer, suitable for precise trimming.
