Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyna immediately began a search operation after receiving information that a resident of Szczytnica was missing. KPP:
The 68-year-old had gone to the post office and did not return for a very long time. His concerned wife notified the police, providing a description of her husband.
The officers add:
Because the missing man had memory problems and temperatures were low, it was very important for the police officers to reach him as quickly as possible.
Thanks to their good knowledge of the area and the information they had gathered, the Kruszyna officers concluded that the man might have entered the forest. The officers found fresh tracks in the snow. Indeed, after walking approximately 3 km, they found the elderly man cold and disoriented.
The 68-year-old was tired, but fortunately did not require medical assistance. The officers drove him home.
