The anonymous letter is three A4 pages long. It is full of details from the life of the clergyman from Bolesławiec that could only be known by someone closely connected with the priest. The letter was sent to the Bishop of Legnica Zbigniew Kiernikowski, the Apostolic Nuncio, the Primate of Poland, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Poznań, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Wrocław and the parish priests in Bolesławiec. It was also sent to our editorial office.
The “good friends” (as they describe themselves) ask for forgiveness for not signing the letter, but according to them, the priest is believed to have considerable influence among the authorities of the city of Bolesławiec and several significant companies with which they have professional business dealings.
The Legnica curia confirmed receipt of the correspondence:
The letter, in the form of an anonymous complaint, reached the bishop.
Rev. Waldemar Wesołowski
The Office of the Primate of Poland also confirmed receipt of the letter. It sent us the following information:
A letter from a group of parishioners from Bolesławiec was received by the Primate’s secretariat. The letter is addressed to Rev. Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski; the Primate is one of the people who received a copy. The letter is anonymous and does not include a correspondence address, so we cannot reply to the people concerned.
Rev. Zbigniew Przybylski
chancellor and press spokesman of the Metropolitan Curia in Gniezno
In our opinion, the moral matters described in the letter are irrelevant in secular society. However, for Catholics they are unthinkable.
If we could advise the priest’s friends, we would say this: if you really care about clearing up this situation, sign the letter. We guarantee anonymity, as in confession. You yourselves admit that everyone knows about the priest anyway, while his superiors are sweeping the matter under the rug.
Do you want to change something? Change it yourselves.
