The message received by a potential victim usually looks like this:

  • “Your parcel has been held due to an underpayment of PLN 0.50.”
  • “Your parcel numbered PL (…) requires an additional payment of PLN 0.87. Failure to pay means the parcel will be returned to the sender. Please settle the amount by clicking the link provided https://[…]”.

“A person who is expecting a parcel and receives such a message is an easy target for criminals. By clicking the link sent to them, the victim exposes their mobile device to viruses that may intercept sensitive data,” warns junior asp. Przemysław Ratajczyk from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. “A phone or computer infected in this way is a valuable source of information for scammers. Logins or passwords entered on these devices to access online accounts or banking applications may fall into the wrong hands, which can result in the account being ‘cleaned out’ of its funds.

Police officers:

Once again, we appeal for caution and for carefully reading text messages from alleged couriers, mobile network operators or other companies. Let us remember not to open links sent in messages, disclose BLIK codes or provide details from payment or credit cards.

Spending a few minutes verifying a message may protect us from losing our money.
