The ongoing epidemic is a difficult time for all of us; to minimize the risk of coronavirus infection, let us comply with the prohibitions and restrictions. During the New Year period, there will be significantly more police officers and patrols in Lower Silesia, all to ensure the safety of residents and people staying in our region.

Police officers have long been appealing to Lower Silesia residents to observe the restrictions, exercise caution and comply with the applicable regulations. If we are outside our place of residence, let us cover our noses and mouths in public spaces, keep a safe distance from other people and use disinfectants. Let us avoid gatherings in larger groups. All of this is truly very important for our safety.

During the New Year period, there will be significantly more police officers and patrols in Lower Silesia, all to ensure the safety of residents and people staying in our region. Enhanced operations will be carried out by, among others, traffic, preventive and investigative officers. The uniformed officers will respond to all situations in which legal regulations are violated.

Police officers will check, among other things, drivers' sobriety, including people's movements, as well as the ban on gatherings and other restrictions. The uniformed officers must carry out all these activities with enhanced safety measures. In the event of any contact with a person subject, for example, to quarantine, or with a person suspected of carrying the virus, the police officers will pass this information on to the appropriate services.

We appeal to everyone not to use pyrotechnics on New Year's Eve because of animals, for which noise and explosions can cause traumatic experiences. However, if we decide to use fireworks, we must strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions. Above all, we should maintain an appropriate distance when setting off fireworks and must not attempt to set off firecrackers indoors, on balconies or in apartment windows, as this could result in a fire and endanger life and health. Let us also ensure that the person using pyrotechnic products is an adult and sober, because, as previous years and extraordinary events have shown, alcohol and fireworks are a very dangerous combination. A firecracker exploding unexpectedly can cause not only burns to the hands and face, but also more serious bodily injuries, such as loss of eyesight, fingers or an entire hand.

Perhaps, in the end, it is worth asking ourselves what I can do as a citizen not to become infected with coronavirus and what situations I should avoid in order to stay safe. Let us remain at home with our closest family and protect ourselves and others. Let us work together to ensure that the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year are joyful and safe for us all. Let us remember that, to a large extent, safety depends on us! Let us act with common sense and responsibility for the common good.
