One of the readers described the situation as follows:
Less than a month ago (9 November 2020), an explosion followed by a fire occurred at the hydroelectric power plant, as reported by OSP Przejęsław. The fuses blew one after another, sparks flew several metres, and the noise was like at a military training ground. Something caught fire in the cabinet, and the flames spread upward along the cables. Early this morning (2 December), the cabinet caught fire again. It had been completely replaced after the previous fire. This time, the fire brigade was not needed. Isn't it strange that equipment at the hydroelectric power plant has caught fire again? Repair work is currently underway using an excavator. There are only three residential houses next to the power plant, and they are also connected to this transformer, which is why the situation worries us greatly.
We asked Tauron about the situation. Below, we present the company's response
At the transformer substation in Przejęsław (Bolesławiec MV and LV Region), a fire broke out in the low-voltage switchgear on 8 November. We scheduled the installation of new switchgear for 17 December. A cable connection temporarily served the switchgear's function; it also caught fire on 2 December. We replaced the cable connection, and our employees regularly use a thermal-imaging camera to check whether overheating is occurring in the temporary switchgear. All devices meet current-carrying-capacity requirements. A team of specialists is currently investigating the causes that led to the components overheating and, consequently, catching fire. The new switchgear will use a different technical solution, which will prevent similar incidents in the future.
