Andrzej Puzio, Małgosia Ziomek, Ola Pawłowska and Adam Buganik attend the Powiatowy Zespół Szkół i Placówek Specjalnych on a daily basis. Once a week, on Fridays, they attend art classes at the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury, where they learn to work with clay. And with quite impressive results. All four were recognized in the 10th National Art Competition “Me and King Maciuś the First,” organized by the King Maciuś the First Youth Cultural Centre in Płock.
Andrzej won second prize, Małgosia third prize, while Ola and Adam received honorable mentions. “This is a tremendous success,” says Michał Budziński, a teacher at PZSiPS. “I remember that just a year ago it was difficult to get our students to come to the MDK. Now they remind me about these classes themselves.”
“Some of these children are exceptionally talented artistically,” says Joanna Mysłek-Michnowska, an MDK teacher. “And recognitions of this kind motivate them to continue working and developing their skills.”
The cooperation between the two institutions has continued for several years. “We are maintaining this cooperation and have even expanded it somewhat,” says Marek Łętowski, director of the Bolesławiec MDK. Four groups of PZSiPS students attend classes at the cultural centre—three in art studios and one in the music-and-rhythm studio.
“As a kind of gesture in return, since October this year the students of the county school have been taking care of the MDK garden,” the director explains. “I hope this cooperation will continue in the future.”
