On Wednesday (11 November), activists from the Federation of Young Social Democrats handed out Polish flags to residents at Bolesławiec’s Market Square. The event was organised to mark Independence Day. “We handed out 350 flags. The residents of Bolesławiec were visibly pleased, which is the best proof that events like this are worth organising,” says Paweł Zieliński, head of FMS in Bolesławiec. “Regaining independence was a wonderful and long-awaited moment in the history of our state,” he adds.
“An interesting moment was meeting a group of German tourists, whom we told about the origins of the holiday. The Germans were pleased that they could be in Poland on that day,” Zieliński continues.
“The aim of our event was to commemorate such a momentous event in Polish history as the regaining of independence. We should never forget this holiday. That is why we decided to hand out Polish flags—our national symbols—to the residents of our city,” adds Michał Banaś, deputy chair of FMS in Lower Silesia.
