Teams selected from five sixth-grade classes, supported by their parents, have taken on a creative task. They are to create mathematics games that will serve as teaching aids for consolidating knowledge and skills concerning common and decimal fractions. Materials to be used for creating the games have been purchased. These include, among other things, playing pieces, dice, hourglasses, coloured paper, markers, crayons, a printer and a laminator.
The first classes as part of the project have already taken place. The students’ enormous commitment and their wonderful ideas are impressive. The quality of the workmanship, educational usefulness and correctness of the answer keys for the mathematical tasks included with the games will be assessed by a jury consisting of mathematics teachers. A touch of competition between the teams additionally motivates the young people to work.
