In Ruda Sułowska, local-government officials and representatives of the institutions involved in the project signed a letter of intent. The Lower Silesian regional government was represented by Marshal Cezary Przybylski and Paweł Wybierała, a member of the Regional Government.

– Thanks to the agreement between the region, local governments and state institutions, we will carry out an investment that will establish new standards for building bicycle routes. The guidelines set out by the Institute for Territorial Development will make it possible to build paths that are safe, well-marked and solidly constructed. Thanks to the discussions and the agreement reached, the sections of the routes built by individual local governments will connect into a coherent whole – explains Marshal Cezary Przybylski of the Non-Party Local Government Officials.

The initiative was launched by the Rzeczpospolita Samorządna association, which brings together several dozen Lower Silesian local governments and has supported social, economic and cultural development in the region for several years. One of the association’s key objectives is to connect local communities, as well as promote and pursue the common interests of local-government units.

– This is an exceptional investment bringing together local-government officials from different parts of Lower Silesia, who, within the association, can pursue the interests and meet the needs of their communities – explains Dariusz Stasiak, a member of the Board of the Rzeczpospolita Samorządna Association and chair of the Regional Assembly’s Committee for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

In addition to Lower Silesian local governments, the project’s partners are Wody Polskie, PKP S.A., the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the State Forests – institutions that partly own the plots of land through which the Lower Silesian Bicycle Motorway will run. In particular, local governments will be responsible for providing their own contribution to the financing, selecting designers and construction contractors, and subsequently maintaining the new infrastructure.

Regional government officials:

The Lower Silesian Bicycle Motorway will supplement the transport network in Lower Silesia and help limit transport exclusion. The project will also provide a new impetus for local plans to develop tourism and promotion, while positively contributing to dynamic local and regional development.

They add:

The agreement reached is consistent with local development strategies and the Lower Silesian Bicycle Policy. Residents are awaiting the implementation of this investment both in terms of transport accessibility and the expansion of the range of tourism services.
