Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk:

Construction is beginning on the long-awaited S3 expressway from Bolków to Kamienna Góra, bringing us closer to a convenient and safe road connection with the Czech Republic. The longest non-urban tunnel in Poland excavated in rock will be built as part of this section.

The new S3 section will run along a new corridor in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, through Jawor, Wałbrzych and Kamienna Góra counties.

What will the scope of the works be?

As part of the investment, a 16.1-kilometre, dual-carriageway S3 expressway will be built between the Bolków interchange and the Kamienna Góra Północ interchange. Each carriageway will have two traffic lanes and an emergency lane. Two two-tube road tunnels will also be built:

  • the TS-26 tunnel, approximately 2.3 kilometres long, between the villages of Sady Górne, Stare Bogaczowice and Nowe Bogaczowice
  • the TS-32 tunnel, approximately 320 metres long, near the village of Gostków.

Once completed, the TS-26 tunnel will be the longest non-urban tunnel in Poland constructed in rock using the mining method (NATM). In addition, 15 engineering structures, 13 animal crossings and 39 culverts will be built along this section. Access roads will also be constructed, and the existing road network will be reconstructed.

In the coming days, mine-clearance reconnaissance will begin, along with archaeological and environmental work. At the same time, demolition and earthworks will start, as will construction of temporary access roads, initially providing access to the tunnel portals.

When will the work be completed?

The planned completion date for the construction works is the second half of 2023.
