This year, Glina Show will take place without a parade. We invite you to Bankowa Street on Saturday, August 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a music and dance event included in the program of the 2020 Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival. We will start trying on the costumes at 12:30 p.m., and we will also be happy to welcome you!
Fairy-tale costumes with a WOW effect!
The costumes for the vocal ensemble were sewn by Małgorzata Dorosz and her team from Efekt Wow Dekor Pracownia Krawiecka „Perła”. The singers, painted with clay, will wear original costumes. The main theme is birds and cage-like frames. The singers will also wear fanciful masks.
Vocal ensemble performance
A 15-member vocal ensemble led by Marcin Rolak, a tenor and graduate of the K. Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, will perform in the fabulous costumes. He leads classes with the school choir of I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec and the church choir at the church in the Kwiatowe estate. During three live appearances, the ensemble will perform a piece by Polish composers and Leonard Cohen’s well-known anthem “Hallelujah”.
Performance by the ZUMBA dance group
The more than 20-member ZUMBA group, led by Magdalena Korczowska and Joanna Piekarz, will dance to Latin American rhythms at Glina Show 2020. The girls, painted with stamps, will dance hot Latin American rhythms for you!
Life is better when you dance—that is how they encourage people to dance together. Zumba is a workout based on the joy of dancing to captivating Latin American music; after just a few classes, you can master the steps. ZUMBA classes offer a chance to break away from everyday life and forget about problems. ZUMBA classes take place in Bolesławiec, Chocianów, Gryfów Śląski, Lwówek Śląski and Zagrodno. Various dance styles are offered: afrodance, reggaeton, bachata, salsa, twerk and cha-cha.
Free photos as part of the #KochamBoleslawiec campaign
You will be able to take photos with the fancifully dressed singers, including as part of the free photo-in-a-frame campaign #KochamBoleslawiec, sponsored by Miejski Zakład Gospodarki Komunalnej.
The newspaper and portal istotne.pl first took free photos in a frame in 2015 during the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival. Since then, we have repeated the #KochamBolesławiec campaign—free photos in a frame—at every Christmas celebration and Ceramic Festival. During this year’s festival, we will organize the campaign for the eleventh time! At the #KochamBolesławiec campaign, we meet our readers and supporters, everyone who, like us, loves Bolesławiec. Bolesławiec residents, county residents and local-government officials, scouts, the “Bolesławiec” brass band, preschoolers and artists visit us with their entire families! Everyone who visited us received a 2021 calendar with a beautiful photo of Bolesławiec.
Body painting with Ceramika Artystyczna Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego
You will also be able to take a photo with a model painted in original patterns created by the artist-painters from Ceramika Artystyczna Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego. They will be living works of art. The model’s body will be covered with clay and intricate patterns used every day to decorate ceramic vessels. Last year’s body-painting show was extremely popular, so this year we decided to repeat it. The model will be Julia Wąsik, a semifinalist in Miss Nastolatek Dolnego Śląska 2020.
GLINA SHOW in Bolesławiec!
Glina Show 2018
In 2018, for the first time after the clay parade had been absent from the Ceramic Festival for three years, people could once again paint themselves with clay and parade to music. There were many people eager to take part. The clay pools broke popularity records. Children both small and large bathed in clay with great pleasure. At the head of the parade was a clay-covered Muzyczne Radio car driven by DJ Maciej Wowk. Behind Muzyczne Radio came Joppe’s recycled jug—a more than four-metre eco-sculpture by Waldemar Cieślak made, among other things, from 440 plastic bottles. It commemorated the clay jug of master Joppe, the city’s ceramic symbol from the second half of the 19th century until 1945, when the jug was probably destroyed by Red Army soldiers. Behind the jug, on a mobile structure, rode the dwarf grandmother Róża from Grażyna Hanaf Joachim’s novel. Tourists and Bolesławiec residents admiring the procession of living clay sculptures warmly welcomed those taking part in the parade.
For the first time in the history of the clay parade, we invited people to a fire-walking show! During Glina Show, we recreated the production process of Bolesławiec stoneware: casting a shape in clay slip, painting and firing. That is why Glina Show had three elements: painting oneself with clay, colouring with multicoloured powders and a fire-walking workshop symbolizing the firing of ceramic vessels. For those willing and brave enough, we prepared the unique experience of walking barefoot over fire.
Glina Show 2019
In 2019, we invited everyone to Polish-German family workshops whose highlight was the Glina Show parade combined with the Holi Festival of Colors. Over three days, we held workshops attended by more than half a thousand participants. The program included creating “clay” parade costumes during workshops with a stylist, which we then painted with clay slip; two days of fire-walking workshops; workshops in shaping clay on traditional potter’s wheels; activities for the youngest children in special pools filled with clay slip; and a body-painting show conducted by Ceramika Artystyczna Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego. Each day, a hot mix of hits prepared by a DJ rang out in the clay town especially for visitors, while an emcee presented all the attractions. The workshops in the town and the parade were an integral part of the 25th Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival.
