– One of my more prominent cases was a paternity action – the attorney recounts. – The defendant, a Spanish citizen, failed to appear in court or undergo genetic testing despite being summoned. As a result of our actions, the court issued a ruling establishing his paternity. In addition, the court awarded child support from the father for the child. Criminal proceedings for evading child-support payments were also pending. Because the father avoided his child-support obligations, the court also awarded support for the child from the grandparents—the father’s parents. It was a good case; it helped the mother and the child – the attorney recalls.
The attorney also recalls a difficult case involving the division of the estate after the deceased mother, followed by a claim for a reserved share after the deceased father. During the case, a fierce family dispute erupted between the testamentary heir and the deceased’s son, who inherited from his mother. Unfortunately, the son had not been included in his father’s will. During the court proceedings, two very favorable settlements were reached for the son. At the hearing, a trainee at the Law Office took advantage of a serious error made by the opposing party’s attorney.
