On Thursday, October 8, the Local Job Fair was held in the gymnasium of the Complex of General and Vocational Education Schools in Bolesławiec. “We sent invitations to 60 employers,” Ewa Hryciów, director of the Powiatowy Urząd Pracy, told IstotneInformacje.pl. “Fourteen accepted the invitation. That is more than last year.”

As the director explains, few employers want to hire new workers in the autumn. “We wanted to organize the fair in the spring,” she emphasizes. “However, it turned out that there were very few job offers at that time.”

At this year’s job fair, staff were sought, among others, by Guardian Automotive, Bader, Fabryka Naczyń Kamionkowych „Manufaktura”, Manpower, Zieleń-Plan, Zakłady Ceramiczne „Bolesławiec”, PHU Mafex, and the Cech Rzemiosł Różnych i Małej Przedsiębiorczości. “We are pleased that smaller companies are also joining our initiative,” the PUP director points out.

“Interest in the fair is truly high,” says Grażyna Matczak, co-owner of Mafex and a board member of the Cech Rzemiosł Różnych i Małej Przedsiębiorczości. “The labor market is completely different from what it was 10 years ago. People want to train and they want to work. And we are primarily looking for people with experience.”

Unemployment on the Rise

Unemployment in our county is rising. In September, nearly 1,000 unemployed people registered with the PUP. However, as the director explains, not many of them are people who have lost their jobs. “The vast majority are people who register, obtain the certificate they need, and do not come back to us. They are not interested in taking up employment,” she states.

“This year, the office received PLN 13 million for active measures to combat unemployment. That is PLN 3 million more than last year,” Ewa Hryciów continues. “We concluded a great many agreements for intervention works, internships, equipping workplaces, as well as grants to start a business. Without money from the Labour Fund, the number of unemployed people in our county would be significantly higher.”

During last year’s fair, 80 people found jobs.
