Avalanche warnings are defined on a five-level scale. The higher the level, the greater the danger.
Level two is defined as moderate danger. It occurs when the snow cover is present only on some steeper slopes. An avalanche may be triggered by what is known as additional loading. This can be caused by a group of hikers or skiers.
For hikers, a level-two avalanche warning means that it is safe to walk outside the designated danger areas. For skiers, it is a signal that only artificially snow-covered runs are safe.
