A 31-year-old resident of Złotoryja County notified employees of one of the companies in the economic zone in Osła (Gromadka municipality) electronically on June 3 and 10 that an explosive device had been planted on the company’s premises.

“As a result of information being provided about a threat to the lives and health of many people, several hundred employees were evacuated. This caused a stoppage in the operation of the facility, consequently resulting in financial losses that have so far been estimated at nearly PLN 200,000,” says asp. szt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer for the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. “Furthermore, in connection with the report, officers of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters took action at the scene—including a bomb disposal and pyrotechnics unit—as well as the Fire Service and ambulance service, generating further unnecessary costs related to the activities of the services.”

Information collected among the company’s employees provided grounds for identifying a potential suspect in the false alarms. The 31-year-old was arrested at his place of residence several hours after the second report.

Police secured the electronic equipment used by the suspect. “The resident of Złotoryja County had previously been employed by the company where the explosives were allegedly planted,” the spokeswoman explains.

The “joker” was temporarily remanded in custody by the court for two months. The 31-year-old now faces between six months and as many as eight years behind bars. He will also face serious financial consequences.
