Radio Gdańsk asked President Andrzej Duda for comment on the possibility of withdrawing 9,500 American soldiers from Germany and transferring some of them to Poland. The defence24.pl website reported:

The president stressed that in such a case, “apart from the fact that we invite them here, this is obviously a decision for the American authorities.” “The American army is welcome in Poland. It is the largest and strongest army in the world,” he added.

President A. Duda:

[Armia amerykańska] is a very strong guarantor of security. Especially in difficult times, when we still have an ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, where Russia attacked Ukraine, where Russia occupies Crimea, and where Russia is also de facto occupying the Luhansk and Donetsk areas today. Thus, there is a visible manifestation of Russian imperialism, which has begun to return. In 2014, there was great concern that this could go further and that the Baltic states might be attacked, and that there might even be an attempt to raise a hand against our country. It was then decided to establish a forward, strengthened presence on NATO’s eastern flank.
