Employees of the Niebieski Parasol Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Chojnów are leaving their jobs. – It is difficult; the staff are already very, very tired – both physically and mentally. I received a letter saying that the employees will remain until 31 May, and afterwards they will need to go home. They understand the situation and do not want to abandon the patients, but they no longer have the strength, especially the mental strength, to stay here – says Małgorzata Sztompke, head of the Lower Silesian Association for People Suffering from Long-Term Immobilisation “Niebieski Parasol”, which runs the facility in Chojnów, where an outbreak of coronavirus has occurred.

– Nobody wants to tell us anything; we are waiting for everything. We keep asking someone to finally tell us what our result is – adds the facility’s director. – And the results are not coming in.

She adds: – We have the impression that when we took care of the patients, everyone decided that they no longer had a problem to deal with.

The staff have not been home for almost a month. When nearly all of them leave, 64 patients will be left without care. The only way out of this situation is... outside assistance. The head of Niebieski Parasol is appealing to medical workers to volunteer for work.

If help does not arrive by the end of the month, the entire facility will have to be evacuated, which could prove very risky for its residents. – It certainly will not do them any good – stresses M. Sztompke.

The city and county authorities, as well as the voivode, have been informed about the matter.
