– Within 4 days, officers identified 2 intoxicated drivers on the road and 2 who were subject to court-imposed driving bans – says Sgt. Marta Kubiak from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec.Marta Kubiak z Komendy Powiatowej Policji w Bolesławcu.

On 17 May, officers detained a 38-year-old motorcycle rider who, with nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system, caused the vehicle to overturn. Fortunately, medical assistance was not needed in this case.

The following day, in the morning hours, a drunk moped rider was taken off the road. The 46-year-old had approximately 1 per mille.

Moreover, on 20–21 May, police officers detained 2 people, residents of our county, who were driving despite court-imposed bans.

District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec:

What are the legal consequences of committing the offence of riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol? They are very serious – being charged with an offence punishable by up to 2 years in prison. Violating a driving ban imposed by a court carries a penalty of up to 5 years.

Of course, high financial penalties and the suspension of a driving licence should also be mentioned. For some drivers, a ban on driving passenger cars means losing their job and, consequently, their family's source of livelihood.

The officers add:

Let us remember that a drunk driver is a potential perpetrator of a road incident with tragic consequences. The same applies to people who are banned from driving – courts do not impose bans without reason.

Police officers have zero tolerance for such drivers. Let us be sensible and think about the consequences of our actions before getting behind the wheel of a car.
