Last year, 880 students from Bolesławiec County took part in the New Horizons Film Education programme. Any school can register for the programme. In September, teachers can enrol their classes in year-long film series. Each series consists of nine meetings held once a month, from October of the current year through June 2010.

The offer is aimed at all age groups. For primary schools, the “Film Journeys” programme has been prepared, showcasing the world’s most interesting countries, as well as “Film Adventures” and “Young People in the Frame”, which present the problems faced by young protagonists. Lower-secondary school students will be shown niche contemporary films. Upper-secondary school students will be able to take part in the “Film Horizons” series, a selection of films with exceptional aesthetic and artistic qualities that they will not find in multiplexes.

According to the programme’s authors, it is worth teaching children from the earliest years that film is one of the most important texts of culture. Literature and cinematography complement each other perfectly, providing mutual background and interpretive context. Learning about film and through film not only increases a young viewer’s sensitivity. It also develops analytical skills and prepares students for partial examinations and the matura examination.
