“He ended my suffering. I want to thank him,” Kacperek’s mother, istotne.pl journalist Joanna Wacyk said.
The child’s body was found by an independent diver from Żary. “He is not only a diver, but also a court expert who used sonars and robots and also entered the water himself,” says Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec police. “Using specialist equipment, he took photographs. They contained information that could prove crucial to our case. He passed this information on to us, and today—together with the divers—he entered the indicated area. That is where the child was found,” the spokesperson explains.
“The body certainly would not have surfaced,” says Marcel Korkuś, a diver who took part in the search for the 3.5-year-old child.
Kacperek’s body was in a very difficult-to-access location in the river, approximately 1.5–2 km from the place where the boy was last seen.
“At present, investigative and prosecutorial activities are being conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office to confirm the child’s identity,” Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec, told istotne.pl.
Reports from April 27 said that the child may have fallen into the river. Divers searched the water, while a boat equipped with sonar examined the riverbed. From the air, police officers in a helicopter and a special drone equipped with a thermal-imaging camera conducted surveillance. Firefighters, soldiers and police officers searched the riverbanks and nearby plots. Tracking dogs were also deployed. It was all to no avail.
