Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki posted the information on his Facebook profile:
I have very good news for all employees and students who work or study with our neighbours, namely in Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
From 4 May they will be able to return to work and study. They will not have to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine. Following epidemiological analyses, cooperation with the governments of the aforementioned countries and consultations with local authorities, we have jointly made this important decision, which cross-border workers and their families had been waiting for.
The increase in new infections is relatively low and stable. We have not defeated the epidemic, but we are increasingly gaining control over it. We can therefore act more decisively so that economic life can begin to pick up pace again.
At the same time, we must remember that opening the borders prematurely entails considerable risk. Therefore, balancing the economic interests of cross-border workers with the safety of your local communities is a tightrope walk. Under no circumstances can we lose our balance. People’s safety is the priority. If we allow the virus to return in border areas, we will squander what has been achieved so far.
We must continue to follow sanitary safety rules with ironclad consistency while maintaining an ongoing dialogue with residents—this will help reduce tensions. It is a matter of responsibility for the residents of individual counties, and my interlocutors understand this very well.
