During Wednesday’s conference, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski presented further stages of easing the restrictions:

From 4 May, the following will open:

  • hotels and accommodation facilities,
  • shopping centres (the rule requiring social distancing will still apply – 15 m² per customer),
  • facilities providing rehabilitation treatments (massage parlours will remain closed),
  • museums, art galleries and libraries
  • DIY stores on weekends

From 6 May, the following will open:

  • nurseries and preschools

More detailed information:

Business activity – shopping centres and hotels open

From Monday, 4 May 2020, we are lifting significant restrictions on trade.

  • Shopping centres and large-format stores open, but with a limit on the number of people and no eating on the premises
  • Retail facilities with a sales area of more than 2,000 m² – that is, shopping centres and large-format stores – will open.

However, we are introducing a limit on the number of people. There must be 15 m² of retail space per person. Importantly, corridors are not included in the sales area.

Attention! Fitness clubs and recreational areas (such as playgrounds) may not operate in shopping centres. Places where meals are eaten on the premises (so-called food courts) may not operate either.

Hotels and accommodation facilities to reopen, but without swimming pools and gyms

Until now, hotels generally did not accept guests, except for people on business trips and those in quarantine. We are lifting this ban. Hotel and accommodation services may be provided provided that special safety rules are observed.

Important! The operation of hotel restaurants and recreational areas will still be restricted in hotels and accommodation facilities. Gyms, common rooms and swimming pools will remain closed. Hotel restaurants may, however, deliver meals to hotel guests’ rooms. They may not serve them on the premises.

DIY stores open on weekends

We are repealing the existing weekend trading ban for large-format DIY stores.

Social life – you can go for medical rehabilitation and visit a museum

After the May Day weekend, social life will also return to greater normality.

  • Libraries and museums

We are lifting the ban on the operation of libraries, archives, museums and other culture-related activities.

Important! Cultural institutions will open gradually and at different times. The specific date will be decided by the body managing the institution after consultation with the district sanitary and epidemiological station.

  • Medical rehabilitation

People who are ill or suffering from pain will be able to use medical rehabilitation from 4 May.

Attention! Massage parlours will remain closed!

On 6 May, nurseries and preschools will open – in exceptional circumstances, local authorities may close them

Children of working parents will be able to return to nurseries or preschools. From Wednesday, 6 May, the bodies managing these facilities may open them, taking into account the guidelines of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy.

Important! Due to the epidemiological situation, the managing body may limit the size of a preschool group or the number of children receiving care in nurseries.

Important! Under the existing general regulations, a local government unit may close all nurseries and preschools in its area.

The additional childcare allowance is paid to parents when:

  • the preschool and nursery are closed by decision of the local government unit,
  • when the nursery or preschool cannot provide care due to restrictions caused by COVID-19.

The foundations of the new normal – key permanent safety rules

The gradual return to normality does not release us from observing basic safety rules. They must become the foundation of our everyday lives. What should we particularly remember?

  • Keep a distance of 2 metres from others in public spaces.
  • Cover your nose and mouth in public places at all times.
  • Work and study remotely whenever possible.
  • Strictly follow sanitary rules in places where people gather (disinfection and maintaining an appropriate distance).
  • Quarantine and isolation for people who are infected or potentially infected.
