Officers from the Komenda Powiatowa Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Bolesławcu:
Unfortunately, the increased number of incidents is mainly associated with forest fires, of which 6 have already been recorded, as well as grassland and wasteland fires—17. [...] in most cases, the presumed cause of the fires was accidental ignition or deliberate human action.
In several cases, effectively and quickly extinguishing the fire required deploying substantial rescue forces, which during the current epidemic creates an additional risk for rescuers.
At the same time, 7 interventions related to so-called local hazards were also recorded. The firefighters said: “In five cases, the actions were related to countering threats associated with the coronavirus, i.e. informing the public, delivering personal protective equipment, and securing tents at hospitals and other healthcare facilities.”
Assistance for neighboring counties
On April 21, a GCBM unit with a water tanker supported forces from Lubań County in extinguishing a forest fire. In addition, firefighters from the local command have also been supporting operations at border crossings since April 6, taking the temperatures of people entering Poland.
