Can jealousy turn our lives into hell? What chances do we have of reaching paradise, and will we survive in life’s purgatory? The exhibition to be presented in Bolesławiec is an attempt to gain a fuller understanding of Kieślowski, who, despite considering himself a pessimist, gave cinema and its admirers hope. In his pursuit of independence and peace, he constantly challenged himself, the system in which he was embedded, as well as cinema and contemporary culture.
The exhibition features photographs and press clippings, posters, reviews, catalogues and numerous publications, as well as archival materials never presented before. It includes, among other things, excerpts from important statements by Kieślowski, showing him while working on his films: on the sets of “The Scar,” “Dekalog” and “Three Colours,” at festivals, and during significant discussions and meetings.
Since its first presentation at the Museum of Cinematography in Łódź, the exhibition has appeared in 27 countries on four continents.
The Thursday event is hosted by the Film Discussion Club “dkf bok”. The vernissage begins at 18:00. After the exhibition opens, the organisers invite visitors to a screening of the short films “Tram,” “Office” and “Concert of Requests,” followed by a screening of the film “Hell” based on a screenplay by Krzysztof Kieślowski. Admission is free.
