All residents of Bolesławiec who have had the opportunity to return from Germany via the Olszyna border crossing certainly take a critical view of part of national road No. 18, derisively called “patatajka” or the “road of shame”—and not without reason. Fortunately, at the end of January this year, the tender was awarded for the reconstruction of a section encompassing the Olszyna border crossing and nearly 12 km of the right carriageway.
Strabag Infrastruktura Południe will receive approximately PLN 180.5 million for designing and constructing the road to A18 motorway standards and will have 3 years and 3 months to complete the project (excluding a several-month winter break).
Another piece of good news is that the appearance of the 4-km section between the Krzyżowa and Golnice interchanges will also change. At the end of last year, an agreement was signed to prepare the design documentation; this will be done by the Kraków-based company Sweco Engineering. Cost: PLN 956,000.
This investment will make it possible to adapt the section to motorway parameters—including by constructing 3-metre-wide emergency lanes.
