A reader contacted us via Facebook:
Could you write about the traffic lights in Łaziska, which are not working properly—so that someone could synchronize them with the lights near Leśny Potok in Bolesławiec?
And added:
When you drive toward Jelenia Góra, they work properly there, but here there is a brake; I do not know who set them up.
Leszek Loch, director of the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei
In response to the [...] press inquiry concerning the traffic lights along provincial road No. 363 (DW 363), I inform you that they operate in “All-Red” mode. This means that, as a rule, a red light is set for all directions of traffic, and only when cameras detect an approaching vehicle does the signal smoothly change to green. This happens provided that the driver is traveling at no more than the maximum permitted speed. If not, the vehicle is briefly stopped at a red light. Pedestrian requests are handled in accordance with the signals controlling vehicle traffic.
This control system is intended to slow vehicles that are traveling too fast at this location. The traffic lights in Łaziska are in no way connected or synchronized with the aforementioned [...] lights in Bolesławiec, near Leśny Potok.
The director adds:
I would like to note here that every citizen may submit an application to change the traffic organization, including traffic-light arrangements. Such a right is also held, among others, by local government units and traffic or road managers—including the Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei in Wrocław.
All applications of this kind are verified and reviewed by DSDiK. If we consider the proposed change justified, we commission a design for the change in traffic organization. In the case of provincial roads, such a change must be approved by the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Only then may it be implemented.
