The programme is aimed at helping children who are entirely or partially deprived of care in their biological families. Training for people who feel able to take on this responsible yet highly rewarding mission will begin around September and October and end in December 2020.
Foster families may be people related to the child, such as grandparents or adult siblings. Non-professional foster families may consist, for example, of aunts and uncles, cousins or people who were previously strangers to the child. Professional foster families, unrelated to the child, are divided into specialist families, where children with various developmental dysfunctions, social maladjustment or requiring special care and attention are placed. No more than three children may stay in such a family at one time.
People willing to run an emergency foster family are urgently needed. No more than three children are placed in an emergency foster family until their life situation is resolved, for no longer than eight months.
Family children’s homes care for groups of no more than eight children until they possibly return to their biological family, become independent or are adopted.
It should be remembered that every form of care for children who, for various reasons, cannot live with their own families is a major responsibility and a full-time job. That is why the District Family Support Centre prepares potential “parents” very intensively to welcome children into their homes. It provides, among other things, psychological, psychiatric, educational and legal assistance—not only during the training, but throughout the entire time the children stay with their foster families.
Who can undertake the care of children, what requirements must be met, and what remuneration is available while carrying out this educational mission?
