We are publicizing the matter at the request of our Reader. In an email to the editorial office, he wrote:

I would like to describe an adventure with Bolesławiec PKS that happened to me yesterday [w sobotę 25 lipca – przyp. red.]. The day before, I checked the services running between Bolesławiec and Nowogrodziec. I decided to take the 5:00 p.m. service. I did not have much choice (five services for the entire day).

At around 5:30 p.m., I called the nationwide PKS information line. The woman told me that if the service had not been suspended, the bus should arrive. I went to the traffic dispatcher at the station. The man, eating soup and watching television (a pastoral scene, not work), informed me that the bus coming from Świeradów had broken down and that if it arrived, it would depart. After waiting 40 minutes, there was no announcement over the station loudspeaker. I asked why there was no replacement bus, since people were standing and waiting. The man replied that there were no drivers and that my next bus was at 7:00 p.m. That was another joke.

A journey that takes 20 minutes took me about 3.5 hours that day. A scene straight out of the communist era. I do not know how anyone can plan any holiday trip with PKS Bolesławiec at all. You never know what will happen, and there is no backup driver on call.”

Last Saturday, our Reader gave up on using the services of one of the Bolesławiec carriers. “Breakdowns happen,” Bolesław Dziedzic, director of passenger transport at PKS, told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. “But not so often that we would have to hire someone to sit and wait for something to happen. That would not be economically justified.”

We asked whether the company could somehow inform passengers about bus delays. “For now, we do not have that capability at stops other than stations,” Dziedzic added. However, as the Reader wrote, on Saturday nobody at the Bolesławiec station informed those waiting about the bus delay.
